Naturalist Night Walk

Overview

This is a night walk through a private reserve near Manuel Antonio National Park, timed to start between 5:30 and 5:55 pm depending on when the sun sets that time of year. A certified naturalist guide leads the group along an easy forest trail with flashlights, pointing out the nocturnal wildlife of the tropical humid forest, along with day-active animals that can be spotted sleeping in trees and burrows.

The guide brings an HD telescope to see wildlife closer and in detail, and takes photos during the walk that are shared afterward by email or Airdrop. The walk lasts around 2 to 2.5 hours and is described by the operator as an easy, educational activity rather than a strenuous hike.

It suits anyone who has only seen the forest in daylight, and one reviewer specifically recommended it for children as a nighttime immersion in nature. The meeting point is the SUKIA Park entrance, and the reserve entrance fee is included in the tour price.

What To Expect From The Tour

A few practical points will make the evening go more smoothly.

• Footwear. Closed-toe shoes are required. Sandals, flip flops and bare feet are not allowed on the walk.
• Bring basics. The operator recommends bringing water and insect repellent for the walk.
• Easy pace. The listing describes the walk as easy, and reviewers back this up, including one family who found it a good nighttime immersion in nature for children.
• Photos handled. The guide takes photos of the animals and sends the images afterward. Multiple reviewers said the photos were a real bonus.
• Wildlife varies. Reviewers reported seeing tarantulas, scorpions, snakes, frogs, geckos, turtles and crocodiles across their walks.
• Language. The tour runs in English and Spanish only. Travellers needing another language can request a private tour as a special arrangement.

Common issues. A few reviewers noted the setting could be explained more clearly: the walk takes place in a private reserve outside the national park itself, and the review summary mentions that some animals are viewed in enclosures. Hotel pickup is only included if that option is selected at booking, so travellers who skip it need to make their own way to the SUKIA Park entrance. Tips for the guide are not included. Baby strollers are not allowed, which matters for families with very young children.
